    Liquid news

I need to go to Tesco.

I exhausted supplies of liquid sustenance just prior to my jaunt on the QM2, and I’ve been so exhausted since I got back that I haven’t topped them up yet. Tonight I was thirsty and wanted a drink before going to bed, so searched the house for something that might fulfil the role.

I found half a bottle of Coca Cola, but this had been sitting out overnight and was completely flat. I reasoned that were I to pop it in the freezer for a bit, the icy coldness of the beverage might cloak its flatness, so into the freezer it went. While there I extracted a tub of ice cream - I figured I could fill a glass with the stuff, pop it in the microwave for a minute, and have myself a lovely vanilla milkshake.

My verdict was that liquid ice cream is too sickly for words, and does very little to quench thirst. So once it had got nice and chilly I tried the Coke instead. It was certainly cold, but this did very little to hide the fact that it was certainly flat, and I couldn’t down more than a couple of mouthfuls.

So I’m still thirsty. I could resort to tap water I suppose, but my failed attempts at improvisation have left me feeling a bit queasy and I doubt I’d keep it down. I’ll just have to be thirsty.

Now this is the part where henry starts saying he’s Simon-y.

Simon, you really should look after yourself better. You should be drinking 2 litres (3 1/2 pints (for Scott, thats Imperial pints not US pints (you need 4 1/4 of those))) of water a day. Otherwise you will dehydrate and die.

Thank god he finally thought of tap water. It _is_ drinkable you know? (Well, in some areas, anyway) Plus you’ve already paid for it (unless you’re on one of those meters) and it’s as easy as turning on a tap (unless your taps are broken).

    Crikey… the world’s complicated, isn’t it?

Water is the very, very best for quenching thirst. Other drinks are for flavour. (Though why *anyone* would drink Coke is beyond me!)

Yes, but Simon lives at the ‘wrong’ end of London, which means his tap water has been through 7 people before it reaches him. No doubt it’s been bleached and things prior to it coming out of his taps, but I doubt it’ll taste too good.

ALL tap water’s been through about 2000 people before it reaches your mouth. Hell, some of it’s probably been through you once already on a previous occasion. Just lately, SimonG and Father Dougal are starting to meld into a single entity, in my thoughts. “Sure, Ted, I’ll just have a nice glass of melted ice-cream". Nobody does that! Come on SimonG, you are a fictional character, and I claim my ten pounds!
