"There has to be a god," the religious used to say;

"The complexity of life can be explained no other way."

One Charlie Robert Darwin gave this statement due reflection,

And propounded his hypothesis of natural selection.


"But how did life begin?" they asked, with obvious intention.

"Its genesis requires supernatural intervention."

At proving wrong this statement then the scientists had a stab,

By creating with success amino acids in the lab.


The Christians conceded this but admirably rallied:

"Scientific explanation of creation is invalid.

"Of science or theology we're forced to choose the latter,

"Since you can't evade the golden rule of permanency of matter."


"Something always will elude us," was the scientists' insistence;

"But you never could explain at all your deity's existence.

"Theological suppositions don't do owt but pass the buck,

"And frankly those of us with a grain of intelligence really don't give a -

[scientist struck by lightning.]
