My car tax expired at the end of January but I couldn't find my MOT certificate to get
it renewed. Fortunately you can get a copy if you ring the place it was
done, so I rang Chris, the previous owner, and asked him the name of the
garage. Gildersome Motors in Leeds, he said. So I rang directory enquiries
and was given a number, which I rang, but they told me they only do
commercial cars, so it couldn't have been done there. So I rang Chris again,
and he said there's a Gildersome Motors, and then there's a Gildersome
Commercial Motors, and I'd obviously got the latter. So I rang directory
enquiries again and asked for Gildersome Motors in Leeds. "There's not a
Gildersome Motors," they said. "There's a Gildersome Cars." That will do, I
said, so they gave me the number, and I rang Gildersome Cars. "Are you
Gildersome Motors?" I asked. "No, we're Gildersome Cars," said Mr Gildersome
Cars. "But I can give you the number of Gildersome Motors." So he gave me
the number, and I wrote it down, and said thank you very much, and rang the
number he'd given me. It didn't exist.
So today I went to get the MOT done again, even though it was done just six
months ago. And it failed. So now I've got to take it to a garage to get it
fixed before I can take it to be MOTed again. Meanwhile, if I have an
accident, my car tax ran out over a week ago so it's doubtful that my
insurance would cover it.
